Yes, driving a car in public, where people can see you, while naked from the waist down is illegal due to the risk of obscene exposure. If you're wearing underwear or a swimsuit, you could likely get away with it - but maybe ask yourself why it's essential to leave the house without pants on in the first place. While our research into road safety laws across Australia didn't raise any specific red flags for driving without pants on, we found that laws surrounding public nudity exist in all states and territories of Australia. Driving without pants on isn't really a safety issue - like driving without a horn or driving with one headlight out - so it's not something you can search on a road authority website, but it's definitely addressed in other parts of the law.

Also, do you not realize that those McDonald's people don't want to see your Barney the dinosaur boxers? They'll need it to get psychiatric help.

Me and college friends were discussing wether a person can wear there underwear while driving there car or would this be considered lewdness or indecent exposure of any kind. The arguments were if your sitting in your car and they cant see you from the waste down is it illegal? Then the question became as long as your private area is covered would it matter if you were in the car or not? Though it may be frowned upon is it illegal? And because we arent sure where they draw the line between lewdness and indecent exposure, or just frowned on for being a weirdo. Please answer elaborately so we can see which of us was right. A: Generally, it would depend on the situation. A traffic stop is for violation of the traffic laws. Assuming you entered your car in a garage and never exited the car in public it would not be indecent exposure. If you wore a bathrobe over it I don't see an issue.
