For me, one of the most powerful—as well as the least discussed—images of the recent presidential campaign was the moment Sarah Palin introduced herself to Joe Biden at the vice-presidential debate. Everyone noticed her style. Her smile. Her handsome, form-fitting black suit. Her disarming simplicity when greeting her opponent.

Sarah Palin ditches $150,000 wardrobe for a pair of blue jeans after uproar over expensive clothes

By Olivia Fleming. Sarah Palin stepped out in Kansas yesterday wearing a Superman T-shirt, skintight cropped pants and five-inch platform wedges - her political uniform of choice while campaigning for Republican Sarah Steelman. While mounting an aggressive campaign in Missouri with television and radio ads, and then serving barbecued pork sandwiches at a rural political picnic, the year-old ditched her suits for an entirely new look. Taking to the makeshift stage in the middle of a farm field, the former Alaska governor proved her new style seems to be nowhere near as conservative as her political views. Palin power: Sarah Palin stepped out in Kansas yesterday wearing a Superman T-shirt, skintight cropped pants and five-inch platform wedges - her political uniform of choice while campaigning for Sarah Steelman. But the Alaskan native's new take on polished political attire didn't seem to bother the plus crowd that gathered to hear her speak. Regardless of her questionable wardrobe however, or perhaps because of it, Palin's political magic appears to carry some serious weight with American conservatives. Superheo Steelman: The Alaskan native's new take on polished political attire didn't seem to bother the plus crowd that gathered to hear her endorse Sarah Steelman for Senator in Missouri. People person: While mounting an aggressive campaign in Missouri, Palin served barbecued pork sandwiches at the rural political picnic, the year-old ditching her suits for an entirely new look. As well as providing political commentary for Fox News, she has hosted the television show, Sarah Palin's Alaska.

By David Gardner for MailOnline. Updated: GMT, 27 October With Barack Obama shrugging off accusations of arrogance to make the 'closing argument' of his campaign, Mrs Palin generated at least as much attention with her new dress-down look. The reverse makeover, which included the abandonment of her trademark beehive-style hair, came as the year-old Alaska governor tried to repair her dented image as a frugal hockey mom with simple tastes. In its place at a rally in Asheville, North Carolina, was a pair of her own blue jeans and a jacket without any discernable designer label from Out of the Closet, a second-hand store in Anchor-age, Alaska. The move was part of a final push by John McCain and Mrs Palin to make up for lost ground that has cost them crucial momentum in the final leg of campaign. But ironically it had the effect of distracting people from a radio discussion, unearthed by the Republicans from , in which Mr Obama lamented failures to bring about socialist-style 'redistributive change'. The interview was described by Mr McCain's campaign as proof that the Democratic nominee was a dangerous radical and that his recent comment to a plumber in Ohio that 'when you spread the wealth around it's a good thing for everybody' was not an innocent slip. Mr McCain has made Mr Obama's remark to the plumber, Joe Wurzelbacker, the centrepiece of his faltering campaign in its final days, lauding 'Joe the Plumber' as the archetypal ordinary American at risk from high taxes designed to divert middle-class wealth to the poor. With seven days to go before America goes to the polls, Mr Obama is projected to be near or even above the electoral college votes he needs to become the first black U.
What does this mean for American interests and my k? Does President Obama have any good options? Is the Cold War coming back? Like many Americans, these questions filled my head Monday after my Oscars hangover lifted. I turned on the television to see what the pundits had to offer. Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and failed Republican vice presidential candidate, was on Fox News, explaining the world to Sean Hannity. They look at our president as one who wears mom jeans and equivocates and bloviates. Palin is quick to call out critics for what she perceives as sexist slights, yet has no problem slinging them around herself. Suffering from the same amnesia that afflicts most Republicans in discussions about the years , she failed to note that the Georgia incursion took place on the watch of an American president whose imperial demonstrations of strength had perilously stretched the U. She said something in that came true six years later.
