Two elementary school students in Louisiana were arrested after a girl sent nude photos of herself to a boy who then shared them on Snapchat, police said. The students at Bonnie Ecole Elementary School were arrested Wednesday after school administrators found a male student in possession of nude photographs of a female classmate. A subsequent investigation revealed that the male student sent the racy photographs to several other students throughout the school via Snapchat, police in Slidell said Thursday. Both students, who were not identified, were arrested on charges of distribution of child pornography and were later released into the custody of their parents, police said. A police spokesman told the Times-Picayune that the department will not disclose the age or grade of either student. A school district spokeswoman also declined to comment, citing privacy laws, according to the newspaper. Contact The Author Name required.

The school watchdog, which spoke to over children and young people, discovered the intimate images are routinely shared on platforms like WhatsApp or Snapchat. Eighty per cent of girls said unwanted or inappropriate comments of a sexual nature happened a lot or sometimes between people their age, with the same amount saying the same about experiencing pressure to send sexual images. But Ms Simon criticised the Ofsted report for failing to look at how inequalities of race, disability and other characteristics can compound sexual abuse girls experience. Just under 80 per cent of girls said sexual assault of any kind happened a lot or sometimes between people their age, compared to 38 per cent of boys. More than 60 per cent of girls said unwanted touching happened a lot or sometimes between people their age, while under one quarter of boys said the same. The report recommended school and college leaders develop a culture where all kinds of sexual harassment are tackled, which includes issuing sanctions where appropriate. It called on the government to develop a guide to explain what would happen after raising sexual harassment and abuse with school staff and to launch a communications campaign about sexual harassment and online abuse aimed at changing attitudes. In response to the review, the government said it will encourage schools to dedicate inset day time to help train staff on how to deal with sexual abuse and harassment among pupils and how to teach RSHE.
